Associate – Climate/Sustainability Risk (m/f/d)

We are looking for an Associate to strengthen the Green Finance Centre in Frankfurt focusing on the application of sustainable finance initiatives and regulatory trends, as well as the practical implementation of sustainability risk management practices.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain awareness of the evolving sustainable finance landscape in relevant emerging markets, e.g. researching and monitoring emerging trends, reporting standards, stakeholder concerns. This includes providing insights across the organization on relevant topics, inform exchanges on the matter with internal stakeholders and partners
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders in the practical application of relevant sustainable finance initiatives, including (regulatory) requirements and best practices in the market, such as regulators’ guidance, the SFDR, the EU Taxonomy, the TCFD Framework as well as alignment to the Paris Agreement for the financial sector
  •  Support the identification, quantification and mitigation of sustainability (incl. climate) risks and opportunities. This includes participation in investment processes: due diligence, assessment and monitoring, in coordination with risk, investment and impact & sustainability colleagues. Support the development and roll-out of procedures and documents across teams
  • Contribute to ongoing development of methodologies for sustainability risk management, with a focus on investments in emerging market financial institutions.
  • Support risk and impact & sustainability departments in the production of analysis and thematic insights on the sustainability risk
  • In close coordination with the risk and impact & sustainability departments, support the development of key risk indicators, establish a credible monitoring process and support the delivery of accurate and informative risk reporting
  • Support the team in designing and managing technical assistance projects related to sustainability risk management for investee companies (financial institutions and corporates)

What we expect:

  • University degree in economics, environmental science, development finance or a related field
  • Experience working on sustainable finance related issues, preferably also for financial service companies, including climate finance and conducting sustainability (incl. climate) risk analysis.
  • Working/technical knowledge on sustainability risk management, with a focus on climate risk - including familiarity with climate scenarios and transition risks associated with climate change
  • Ability to communicate the strategic relevance of sustainability risk management while providing technical guidance
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Flexible, pragmatic, and solution-oriented
  • Excellent English language skills; knowledge of German and/or other languages of Finance in Motion’s countries of operation is considered a plus
  • Demonstrable commitment to Finance in Motion´s vision/mission
