Economist / EM Currency Expert (m/f/d)

Our Treasury and Foreign Exchange Unit is in charge of the treasury activities of all funds managed by Finance in Motion, including the development of solutions to enable long-term impact investments denominated in exotic currencies. The team is looking for an economist to support the assessment of emerging market currencies in which our funds may invest.

Key responsibilities:
  • Participate in the assessment of the currency risk associated with investments denominated in exotic emerging market currencies (in Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America, Middle East) and propose risk mark-ups.
  • Monitor developments and trends in those currencies based on macroeconomic developments, local benchmark rate movements, central bank policies. Provide corresponding advice to the management.
  • Contribute to design strategies for enhancing our funds’ capacity to invest in emerging market currencies.
  • Contribute to designing and implementing innovative strategies for mitigating our funds’ exposure to market risks, notably currency risks and interest rate risks.
  • As part of the larger Treasury team, support with treasury activities, including derivative trades to reduce their exposure to market risks, managing the trading books, onboarding new counterparties, placing excess cash positions, and trading bonds.

What we expect:

  • Degree in economics, finance, or a related field
  • Sufficient, relevant work experience, particularly in finance or economics, with a focus on developing countries, capital markets, or derivatives. Experience in treasury, or in the economics department of a financial institution is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of macroeconomics in developing countries
  • International mindset and excellent language skills in English
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to build and maintain good relationships with various stakeholders in a complex, international environment
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate concepts into workable solutions
  • Initiative, proactive and results-oriented approach to work
