MSME & Entrepreneurship Finance, Business Development Professional (m/f/d)

We are looking for an impact investing professional to join the fund advisory team of the European Fund for Southeast Europe (EFSE) (www.efse.lu). EFSE is a pioneering development finance fund which works across 16 countries to strengthen the financial sector, expand access to finance for small business, and support the entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Working closely with the EFSE Fund Director, the position is envisaged as a critical interface, coordinating the activities of the business generation and support teams in formulating, and advancing the Fund’s impact strategy and product development in areas of MSME growth and transformation, entrepreneurship, sustainable agriculture, and financial inclusion.

This position builds on more than a decade of financing of MSMEs in the amount of EUR 5 billion through the funds we advise and EUR 69 million of capacity building through the TA facilities we manage to enable SME finance through the financial sectors and SME ecosystem.

Key responsibilities:

  • Coordinate EFSE’s business strategy and planning, based on ongoing monitoring and analysis of the fund’s investment portfolio and on-lending dynamics as well as overall lending trends of partner lending institutions to relevant target segments.
  • In close coordination with the Investment Management and technical assistance team, engage with financial institutions/financial services providers/platforms in the development of MSME finance products, services, and portfolio, with the aim to advance the post-COVID recovery and strengthen financing to MSMEs. Prepare related presentations and Board memoranda.
  • In close coordination with FIM’s Impact and Sustainability team, identify opportunities to further deepen EFSE’s impact and communication.
  • Contribute to identifying new business opportunities and impactful investment practices for the fund to pursue and translate these into a coherent investment strategy and impact narrative.
  • Support the Fund Director in high level strategic discussions and initiatives with the Fund´s Board and Investment Committee, as well as regular stakeholder management (including investor relations, marketing, and communication activities, etc.)
  • Keep abreast of relevant MSME finance market trends in the fund’s target regions and identify future business opportunities for the fund.

What we expect:

  • Relevant work experience in impact investing / development finance, preferably in market research, strategy, and business development capacity
  • Sound understanding of key players, practices, major trends in sustainable finance and impact investing, ideally in the EU and EU Neighborhood context
  • Ideally, international working experience with good understanding of markets, social and business context as well as financial sectors in the Fund’s region of operation
  • Effective researcher with capability to translate research into convincible, tangible, and relevant concepts for the Fund
  • Strong project management and stakeholder management skills
  • Diligent, organized, self-starter
  • Excellent written and spoken English, open and engaging communication style
  • Demonstrable commitment to Finance in Motion´s vision/mission
